Greed, Exploitation, Bigotry and Power Lust, riding horses of Ignorance and Stupidity, are the new Four Horsemen of today’s Apocalypse. Many of us have wondered where the great leaders of social conscience have gone. Where are the forebearers of the Mahatma Gandhis, John Lennons, Martin Luther Kings, Cesar Chavezs, Michael Manleys, Malcolm Xs? Of those who galvanized this nation into looking at itself in terms of civil rights, peaceful protests, workers rights? Who are we looking to now… Sarah Palin? You must be kidding me?

We applaud the movements that were created to give voice to global concerns -- environmentalists, animal rights activists, vegans -- but are they still speaking loud enough?

Where are the activists of the early years? The answer… “Paying mortgages and credit card debts”.
But, there is always hope, for many of us still truly care about the plights and rights of our fellow men. We care about child labour making Nikes, about the food output that is killing us, about health care, education, global warming, predatory banks and credit card companies, multi-layered corporations driven by greed, corrupt political and economic systems.

The problem is, we tend to compartmentalize our concerns, blurring the bigger picture.

Artists have been, and continue to use creativity to bring the global issues into focus. We are creating musical, literal, and visual voices, reminding all that we are not close to a perfect world… but we can get there. We Imagine, and beg you to do so too.

You can start by joining us in a celebration of “Activist Art” at the Sailboat Bend Artist Lofts on June 19, 7:00pm, as an All-Star collective of Performing and Visual artists lend their voices, their hands, and their imagination to you, so that you can remember that we are all our brothers keepers and are responsible for their welfare as they are responsible for ours.
Let’s Celebrate at this Free Event. Let’s make the world better, together.
